I was intrigued to see Yul & Deborah in The Journey, especially since I'm a fan of The King & I. I looked around & it seems like those are the only two movies that they ever made together. It's a shame because I really wanted their characters to get together. It just wasn't meant to be I guess. Yes, I obsess about movies just that much. I probably need to talk to Dr. Phil.
I did come across an interesting story about how Deborah came to be in The King & I. Gertrude Lawrence had the role on Broadway & she had a contract for the film. However, she died from cancer before that could happen. Maureen O'Hara was cast next, but Richard Rodgers was hesitant. Finally Yul Brynner lobbied for Deborah Kerr to have the role. Also, Marni Nixon was Deborah's singing voice in the film, as well as in the movie An Affair to Remember. Why they cast actresses in musicals when they can't sing, I don't know. However, in this case I'm glad they did.
