I was perplexed when my niece started singing "I heard there was a secret garden..." Hallelujah is one of my favorite songs ever, but not really something I would expect kids to know. I think it was on the soundtrack for Shrek. A friend's little brother was running around the house singing "I like big butts".
Back in the day, kid's movies had kid like soundtracks to them, like "A whole new world" or "Under the sea". I guess Hollywood recognizes that parents watch these films as well & listen to the soundtracks over & over so it should be music that parents like. I just think that there should be a happy medium of music between nursery school & buying term life insurance that all age groups can enjoy. It seems like the music is much more geared towards adults now. I don't know whether that's a good thing or not.
